This part of Rittenhouse is beautiful - tree-lined streets, very quiet. Situated right along the Schuylkill River, Fitler Square is a quaint neighborhood full of old-school Philadelphia charm. Fantastic neighborhood with tons or restaurants and bars, and a great park steps away. Most upper level students also live downtown, so it is easier to connect with your peers. Great area, easy to walk around, and tons of shops and restaurant/bars. Because the great majority of Wharton Students live here, there is unusual to walk more than 4 to 5 blocks to any meeting/party/etc. It is also very convenient to have 2401 (Wharton satellite building) for group meeting, print cases, etc. Easy commute to school. AreaVibes. OK, close to the corner of Rittenhouse Park that is infested with homeless people (even more so than the other sections), very busy intersection, but close to everything. Taking an Uber from the apartment to Huntsman can take longer than expected because of traffic on Walnut Street (there's a lot of construction further west on Walnut). If you like a social atmosphere and one where you can distance yourself a bit from the college experience and integrate with young professionals in Philadelphia, Center City is a great place to be. Rittenhouse Sq is the hub of Wharton social activity, but consider where in the neighborhood you are - east side has more shops/restaurants but is farther from campus, grocery stores seem to be mostly NW of the square, SW is probably the quietest. I love Rittenhouse for the shopping/restaurants/parks/convenience, but like many neighborhoods in large cities you should be aware of your surroundings especially if you are a woman. It's certainly less residential than Rittenhouse area, so if you're looking for more of the city-living aspect, Center City is great. Right by Rittenhouse Square in the center of where all Wharton students live! Walnut Street is on the safer side but dont let your guard down especially in the evening. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise.
